The Lucky 7 - My Best Bits from July
Hello August! Where did July go? July was always the best month of my childhood... All the BBQ's, all the time by the pool and all the time just being outside. This July was the same (minus the pools) If its departure means that we don't have to deal with those volcanic heats... I'm all for kissing the month goodbye. I hope that we have a lovely warm (not hot) couple of months before moving into the cooler season. Enough about the weather and let's get to my Lucky 7 memories from July.
Really love how the UK has embraced US holidays... Any excuse to eat right? French's Mustard
and Franks Red Hot Sauce
really turned out the party.
They had burgers, hot dogs, pizza, BBQ, and mac & cheese... Toss in a few cheerleaders and a Wing eating contest... what more could you ask for from a 4th of July party? Fireworks.
Maybe next time guys!?!?!?
really know how to throw a party. On the 4th they celebrated their 5th Birthday and opened thier Mansion House Shack. The #HometowmShack collab between Home Town BBQ
& Black Axe Mangal
collab smoked top loin, ogleshield cheese, caramelised onion and jus with the Smoked pastrami cheese fries from Smokestack
washed down with a incredible Smoked caramel bourbon laced hard shake. Now, this is the way to celebrate your birthday! ⠀
When it comes to wine... being brutally honest, I know very little. I can tell the difference between red and white. When ordering wine out, I know where to stop on the list. Something safe and familiar. Typically white and Italian. That was until spending the evening with Wines of Germany
at Clarette to celebrate #31daysofgermanriesling. Why 31 days you ask? Have a read on my blog about the evening. (Spoiler alert: I drank a lot of wine) ⠀
Truly epic BBQ meal at Mare Street Market
. Loved the collab with Brooklyn finest Fette Sau BBQ
to launch Brookly Brewery summer residency #BrooklynBBQ on the terrace at MSM. They are serving up a perfectly simple menu of brisket, pork belly and garlic sausage links paired with BBQ pinto beans, German potato salad and brocolli salad. Such a brilliant night meeting and talking bbq with Joe Carroll and of course the food and the beer! ⠀
Attended the UK launch of Bolivian spirit Singani 63 from director Steven Soderbergh (And yeah he way there! )
Its distilled from the white Muscat of Alexandria grape grown at high altitude in the Andes it has the nose of tequila and drinks like a herbacious vodka. Extremely versatile as proven by the cocktails being poured by Alex Day from Death & Co and Ivy Mix of Leyenda (two of America’s most talented bartenders and iconic cocktail bar owners)
It’s no secret that I LOVE The Coal Rooms
. It’s one of those places that I can eat morning noon and night. Their new lunch menu continues to blow me away. Three favourites were the Wagyu Lardo, tomato fondue, bull heart tomato on dripping fried sourdough. The next level salad of brown shrimp, cabbage, samphire, dill and buttermilk. Finally The house made green chorizo tacos with that inspired crumb topping.
I'm pretty confident in the kitchen, but give me a cocktail shaker and a bottle of alcohol and you will be drunk after one drink. I can never get cocktails right. That was until I was invited to a cocktails masterclass (aka #lifelessons) at Tom's Kitchen
After an evening of muddling, slapping, shaking, frothing, straining, pouring, floating & garnishing (those are all legit mixology terms) I can mix three incredible cocktails (And also know where to go if I can't be bothered to make them)
