Mama Shelter – The perfect hotel for your weekend in East London.

Are you hunting for the perfect hotel for a weekend in London?
A design-led does not feel like it’s a flat pack hotel?
A hotel that won’t break the bank?
A hotel that’s very close to the east end of London?
A hotel that has a brilliant food and beverage offering?
A hotel that makes you feel like a pop-star in training?

If you answered yes to any of those questions… I have found the perfect hotel in London that fits that bill. Say hello to Mama Shelter London.  Mama Shelter is a collection of lively, unique and quirky places to rest your head, fill your bellies and wet your whistels around the globe (Think Los Angeles, Paris, Rio, Prague and Now London to name a few)
The group  already boasts 1813 rooms, 13 restaurants and 1170 employees in 12 cities and 7 countries.

The Neighbourhood

Mama Shelter London is situated in Shoreditch.  Shoreditch is an arty area in East London. The area has  fashionable clubs and an eclectic dining scene featuring  everything from hottest new openings, artisan coffee shops and noodle bars. The area is teeming with Vintage and design shops.

The Hotel is really close to both Cambridge Heath train station and Bethnal Green underground, and only a short stroll from Shoreditch.

The Design

With cutting-edge design elements crafted by Parisian designers Dion & Arles, Mama Shelter London houses 194 bedrooms, each a sanctuary that combines home comforts with all your digital needs.

There is nothing minimal about this property.  It’s a full on kaleidoscope of colour, pattern and textures… From the Bead curtain walls, to the Darth radar masks and baroque armoires holding merchandise

The Room

Think pale pink walls, marble table tops, light blonde wood bed and one of the best lit selfie mirrors I’ve seen.   They have a desk cum/table that perfect for working from the room or hosting Pr-inks (pre-drinks) with friends before hitting the town on a night out. The Rooms

The beds were super comfortable.. I was actually the first person to sleep in the bed in the hotel preview.   The blackout curtains really work… I had the most horrendous hangover (see comment about Prinks)

The bathrooms are well-appointed and well-lit…. They have house branded toiletries and they are pretty lush.

The Food and Drink

They have a rather huge restaurant that feels more like a neighborhood haunt verses a hotel restaurant.   I dined on moth diner and breakfast at my stay.  I have to say that if I have zero interest in exploring the city and the food scene, I could eat here with ZERO regrets.

I had one of the best cottage pie and a delicious steak tartare.  The chocolate tarte was the stuff that dreams are made of… buttery bace and the silkiest of chocolate custard with that little bit of wobble.

Breakfast is an all you can eat the affair with loads of options from bacon, sausages, eggs, Mediterranean vegetables, fruits, yoghurt, cereals and freshly baked pastries.

There is a lobby bar that uses some brilliant vodkas and gins from the East London Liquor company and other top shelf house liquors.  The cocktails are imaginative, yet accessible.  Which is the perfect mix as I like adventure, but want to order without the fear of regret.

The Extras

There is a fitness room… Several communal spaces to lounge and watch people go by….  But the best extra feature is the Karaoke Rooms.   Yep you can unleash your inner pop star in the basement karaoke rooms.   With every room you book you get 1 free hour in the rooms.  Rooms have free movies on demand and a mini fridge to keep your prinks chilled.

The Damage

The room I stayed in was a Medium Mama  which was really spacious for 2 people to not get on each others toes.   They start at £119 per night.  With the small rooms starting at £99 per night.
