Oslo Hackney Summer Menu Review
You know how you often dismiss a place based on what you think it would be… for example, a pub serving Japanese food or buying choux from a street food seller. Things that you thought that never would be good but turn out to be great. I’ve only known OLSO as being a music venue so always assumed that the food would be bog standard pub grub. You can imagine how surprised I was when I tried out the new summer menu.
Serving up Nordic leaning dishes with global fusions, the summer menu ay Oslo is delicious We tucked in on cod fritters with tempura seaweed and lime mayo, baby poussin with Thai salad, Chargrilled Norwegian Sausage and Iberian Chicken Salad. Love that the food was not overly fussy, but still a bit refined and intelligent. The food was well seasoned and full of flavour. The pouison was sooooooo tender and the sauce was unctuous! Portion sizes were ample and did not leave the table hungry.
Let’s not overlook the cocktails that were easy to sip and did not deplete the wallet like you would in the west end. Strong pours and solid recipes.
The venue itself is surprisingly light and airy and pretty well laid out. The toilets are shared with the music venue upstairs so its a little trek up some stairs, where it really feels like a live music venue. The service was efficient even though the place was packed to the rafters. I’d recommend this as a great place to hang out with friends or even a casual date as you could stay on afterwards and have drinks at the bar.
